Thursday Evening Post-Reception Cultural Excursions
A Contemporary Theatre www.acttheatre.org
Production of "The Women" by Clare Boothe Luce - 7:30 pm
Sharpen your claws: In this super-stylish, venomously funny 1930s comedy, a baker's dozen of Seattle's top actresses play a group of gleefully backstabbing ladies who lunch. Beneath the tart tongues and arched eyebrows is a serious consideration of the not-so-good-old days, and of what women are left with when culture strips them of power. You've come a long way, baby. Mee-ow.
Discounted ticket price: $27.00 |

Zabryna Guevara plays Gladys in The Cook, photo by T. Charles Erickson at the Hartford Stage |
Seattle Repertory Theatre www.seattlerep.org
Production of "The Cook", a contemporary drama by Eduardo Machado - 7:30 pm
In 1958, on the eve of the Cuban revolution, Gladys, a young cook, makes a solemn promise to her mistress. Before the wealthy family flees in the night, she vows to protect and care for the beautiful home that she worked in all her adult life. As the reality of Castro's revolution settles in, and despite the personal consequences, Gladys fights to keep her promise for over four decades. In Machado's rich, engaging, and deeply personal play, Gladys emerges as a woman with great spirit who lives by her heart against a backdrop of a troubled Cuba. The New Yorker called The Cook "first rate...a shining theatrical experience."

Seattle playwright Cheryl West |
Seattle Repertory Theatre www.seattlerep.org
Production of "Birdie Blue", a contemporary drama by Cheryl West - 7:30 pm
Birdie Blue is preparing her once sweet talking husband, Jackson, for a journey, while she also bakes a cake for her son's birthday. But the peace of this domestic scene belies Birdie's state of mind, and she welcomes us in to tell it like it is - and like it was. Birdie's life parallels the history of contemporary African-American life, from the fields of Mississippi to the gritty streets of Chicago, and the stories of her life reveal the hardships and joys of the struggles shared in late 20th century America. This lyrical and yet frank reflection on love, marriage and the passage of time is by Seattle playwright Cheryl L. West (Jar the Floor, Holiday Heart, Before It Hits Home, and Addy: An American Girl Story).
Discounted ticket price: $29.00 |

Teatro Zinzanni |
Teatro ZinZanni - 6:30 pm www.teatrozinzanni.org
Seattle's own Teatro ZinZanni is a big night out unlike any other, a three-hour whirlwind of international cirque, comedy and cabaret all served up with a five-course feast designed by celebrated Northwest chef Tom Douglas. Teatro ZinZanni combines improv comedy, vaudeville revue, music, dance, cirque and sensuality into a dizzying and colorful new form that is never quite the same from evening to evening. The gorgeous antique Belgian spiegeltent that houses the production dates from the turn of the 20th century; there are only eight of these marvelous structures still in existence. The fast-paced action of the show unfolds above, around and even alongside the audience as they dine on a gourmet meal.
Discounted ticket price: $81.00. Beverages and gratuity not included. Limited offer, register soon!
